Sci-Tech High-tech Exports in Shanghai Increase

Exports of high-tech products in Shanghai valued at 3.2 billion U.S. dollars in 1999 increased by 44 percent from the 1998 figure.

According to latest customs statistics, 90 percent of exports came from foreign-funded enterprises, a 53-percent rise compared with the 1998 figure. State-owned enterprise exports decreased by 7.8 percent at 320 million U.S. dollars last year.

Exports included computers, electronics, new materials and nuclear technology. Exports to the United States and the European Union increased by 64.3 percent and 77.2 percent respectively.

Electronic products were on the top of the city's high-tech export list with a total value of 1.45 billion U.S. dollars, followed by computers and telecommunication products.
