Chinese Ambassador to the United States Li Zhaoxing Tuesday expressed his utmost indignation over and firm opposition to an anti-China act passed by the U.S. House of Representatives.

"A handful of American politicians, who are holding Cold War mentality, have pushed the House to pass the act in an attempt to provide a legal basis for the buildup and expansion of military contacts and exchanges between the United States and Taiwan, and for the sales of advanced weapons and technologies to Taiwan," Li said when meeting with some representatives of the U.S. House and heads of large enterprises.

"This is a dangerous move, not representing the aspirations and interests of the American people," he pointed out.

On February 1, the U.S. House disregarded the repeated solemn representations made by China, and passed the so-called Taiwan Security Enhancement Act.

The anti-China act passed by the U.S. House is "a complete violation of the three Sino-U.S. joint communiqu��s, a serious encroachment on China's sovereignty, a gross interference in China

's internal affairs, and an attempt to make 'two Chinas', or 'one China and one Taiwan'," Li said.

If this act becomes law, Li said, it will undermine the cross-strait relations, infringe upon the peace and stability of the Asia-Pacific region and bring serious damage to Sino-U.S. ties.

The Chinese ambassador strongly demanded that the U.S. government take an immediate action to prevent the anti-China act from becoming law.
