Sports South China Beats Bangkok Bank at Asian Cup Winners Cup Soccer

South China from Hong Kong, China, met strong resistance before outclassing Bangkok Bank 3-2 in the first leg of the quarter-final result of the 10th Asian Cup Winners Cup 1999/2000 East Asia on January 22.

South China got a flying start by leading 2-0 after 48 minutes. But Bangkok Bank turned the table to 2-1 in 56th minute when Apirak Sriaroon slammed a free-kick home.

But Yeung Ching-kwong secured his team's victory in 83 minutes after he caught a long pass from teammate Lee Kin-wo and headed home in the box.

Thais kept pressing their opponents with their good teamwork and it worked as Krongpol Daorueang kicked home by getting a throwin the box before goalie Michael Leonard rushed out to block him.

The two teams will meet again on next Sunday in the second leg in Bangkok, with the winning team on aggregate over the two legs sailing into the semi-final of the East Asia.
