Namibia firmly supports China's initiative of establishing a Sino-African Cooperation Forum, and it will actively take part in the minister-level meeting due to be held in Beijing this October, Namibian President Sam Nujoma said on January 13.

He made the remarks when meeting with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan at the state house. The president said his country has always been strongly opposed to any act of hegemonism and power politics. He hoped all the developing countries will strengthen their unity and cooperation to safeguard their proper rights.

Tang pointed out that the establishment of the forum will not only benefit the friendly relations between China and African countries, but also the world peace and development.

He said that under the circumstances that the world is experiencing great changes and globalization continue to develop, it becomes more necessary that the developing countries should push forward their cooperation against hegemonism and power politics.

Based on the similar historic backgrounds and the principle of mutual benefit, China is willing to promote political consultation and economic cooperation with all African countries in the new century in a bid to step up the establishment of the new world political and economic orders, he said.

The exchange and cooperation between China and Namibia in political and economic fields had been significantly improved in the past decade, Tang added, noting that the two developing countries shared common views on many issues and supported each other in international arena.

Tang arrived here from Nigeria on Wednesday for a two-day official visit to the southwest African country, which is the second stop of his African trip.

He left for Harare, Zimbabwe, on Thursday afternoon to continue his five-nation tour.
