China Traffic Safety a Priority Says Ministry of Communications

The Chinese Ministry of Communications has issued a directive, requiring its local branches to ensure traffic safety in the wake of recent hazardous road conditions.

The Ministry has urged local governments to implement a safety responsibility system for transportation drives and strengthen safety precautions. The directive underlined road maintenance, drivers' qualification and severe penalties against overloading.

Recent heavy snows, frosts and dense fogs have led to more traffic accidents in China. The Ministry has advised all motorists to be especially careful during the traditional Chinese Spring Festival period, which falls in early February.
