Sci-Tech East China Province Reduces Air Pollution

Nearly all-major manufacturers which had been causing serious air pollution in east China's Jiangsu Province have now stopped emitting soot and dust.

This means that the emission of soot, dust, and sulphur dioxide in the province will be reduced annually by 102,000 tons, 124,000 tons and 56,000 tons, respectively.

Jiangsu, one of the country's economic powerhouses, has been suffering from moderate air pollution over the past decades as the local economy surges forward.

The provincial government launched a massive pollution-control campaign several years ago focused on stopping its 1,129 major manufacturers from polluting the air.

Now, more than 700 million yuan has been spent for various pollution-control facilities at these enterprises. (Xinhua)
