Friday, December 24, 1999, updated at 08:50(GMT+8) Business Legislators Call for Stronger Economic Supervision China's top legislature, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), is expected to enhance supervision of economic work in a bid to ensure the sustained, rapid, and healthy development of China's national economy, said Chinese legislators on December 23 at the evaluation meeting for the "NPC Standing Committee's Decision on Strengthening Economic Supervision Work (draft)." At the ongoing 13th session of the Standing Committee of the 9th National People's Congress (NPC), the law makers said that increasing supervision of economic work will facilitate government departments' responsiveness to public opinions, improve efficiency, assure the administration of state affairs in accordance with law, and fully implement the Party's lines, principles, and policies. Gu Shanqing, member of the NPC Standing Committee, suggested that the legislature includes supervision of balanced economic development, the prevention of economic disorder, and the strengthening of supervision of key projects in the draft decision. Bao Wenfa, another NPC Standing Committee member, called for concrete supervision content, including a budget, planning, key projects, and organization and financial operations reform. The NPC Financial and Economic Committee began outlining the draft decision at the beginning of this year, and took into consideration related laws and regulations on economic supervision, and consulted with various departments of the State Council and committees under the NPC before finally completing the draft decision. The legislators on December 23 also evaluated the "Draft Law on Seeds." (Xinhua) Printer-friendly Version In This SectionSearch Back to top Copyright by People's Daily Online, All rights reserved |
