Sports Chinese Team to Attend FIBA Diamond Cup Games

It is learned from the Chinese Basketball Association that the Chinese men's basketball team has decided to take part in the first Diamond Cup Games organized by the Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) to be held in Hong Kong in September next year.

This resolution was passed at the Fourth Session of FIBA recently held in Munich. Yugoslavia, the world champion, has been invited to attend. This means the Chinese men's basketball team, the champion of Asia, will get an excellent opportunity for warming-up exercises and challenging world top-notch teams before the opening of the Sidney Olympic Games.

The four teams other than the Yugoslavian and Chinese teams are: Angolan, Italian, Australian and Canadian teams.

The match will take place from September 2- 6 next year. The six teams will be divided into two groups for sports round robin. Then their final standing will be decided according to the scores of each group. Each team will have to take part in three regulation ball games, and will get US$100,000 worth of contesting expense. The champion will be awarded a basketball inlaid with diamond.
