Participants to a forum on refuting Falun Gong, which was sponsored by the Hong Kong-based Chinese newspaper Wen Wei Po, strongly condemned it as an organization which spreads malicious fallacies which are harmful to people's minds and bodies. They warned Hong Kong residents be guard against that some persons in Hong Kong are attempting to create social disturbances and to undermine the stability of Hong Kong in resort of China's ban on Falun Gong. "As a matter of fact, there are some people who have spread fallacies attacking China's handling of Falun Gong in accordance with law. Close attention should be paid to this issue," said Liu Zaiming, director and editor-in-chief of the newspaper in his opening remarks at the forum, the first of its kind that has ever been held in Hong Kong. Participants called on the followers in Hong Kong not to enter the mainland to spread malicious fallacies or to organize any activities of supporting Falun Gong, warning that anyone who violates the law of the mainland will be punished in accordance with the law of the mainland. "It is necessary to refute Falun Gong in Hong Kong in order to uphold the concept of 'One Country, Two Systems' and to maintain the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong," said Dr. Tsang Hin Chi, member of the Standing committee of the Ninth National People's Congress. Chu Lien Fan, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and managing director of Tung Wui Securities Co. Ltd., said that Hong Kong people need to understand that Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Gong, concocted Falun Gong in order to destroy people's minds and disturb public order and social stability. Chun Meng Siu said that he firmly supports China's ban on the illegal Falun Gong. Falun Gong deceives its followers by misusing Buddhist terminology, he stressed. By citing the numerous examples of cracking down various kinds of cults around the world, participants said that the correct handling of Falun Gong by the Chinese government is fully in line with the world trends of modern civilization.
