Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said at press conference on December 7 that China understands and supports Russia's action in Chechen to safeguard its unity and territorial integrity.

Answering questions at the press conference, Zhang said that the Chechen issue is entirely Russia's own internal affair, adding that China has always firmly opposed the practice of interfering in the internal affairs of other countries.
