Sports World Cup Qualifying Draw for Asia

Following are the results of the first round draw for the Asian qualifying competition of the 2002 World Cup made on Tuesday:

Group 1

Oman , Syria , Laos , Philippines

Group 2

Iran , Tajikistan , Myanmar , Guam

Group 3

Qatar , Malaysia , Hong Kong China , Palestine

Group 4

Kuwait , Singapore , Bahrain , Kyrgystan

Group 5

Thailand , Lebanon , Sri Lanka , Pakistan

Group 6

Iraq , Kazakhstan , Nepal , Macao

Group 7

Uzbekistan , Jordan , Turkmenistan , Chinese Taipei

Group 8

United Arab Emirates , India , Yemen , Brunei

Group 9

China , Indonesia , Maldives , Cambodia

Group 10

Saudi Arabia , Vietnam , Bangladesh , Mongolia

The 10 group winners qualify for final round which will be divided into two groups of five teams. The two winners of the final round groups qualify for the finals in Japan and South Korea. The two runners-up will play off for the right to meet a European group runner-up in a further play-off. The winner of this play-off qualifies for the finals.
