World UAE President Meets Sultan of Oman

President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates(UAE) met with visiting Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed of Oman in Abu Dhabi on November 30.

The meeting was part of the continuous consultations between the two leaders on ways of enhancing cooperation between the two neighbors, the official WAM news agency said.

Qaboos arrived here Monday evening from Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, where he had attended the 20th summit of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, namely Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and the UAE.

Sheikh Zayed, who, for health reasons, was represented by his deputy at the three-day summit, discussed with Qaboos major issues concerning the annual meeting, WAM said, without elaboration.

The most important result of the summit was an agreement on GCC common customs tariffs between 5.5 percent and 7.5 percent, which will be implemented by March 2005.

The agreement was a major step for the long-awaited GCC customs union and a final Gulf common market, which aims to face the challenges of globalization.
