Sports China Loses to Spain in World Cup Volleyball

Asian champions China lost a tough battle to Spain 25-22, 21-25, 25-21, 22-25, 19-17 in the World Cup men's volleyball tournament in Nagano on Sunday.

China, who only managed a single win in the tournament up to now, twice came from behind to level the tie at 2-2 but lost concentration in the deciding rubber.

Double Olympic champions the United States snapped Cuba's match-winning streak with a grueling 25-19, 20-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-11 victory in Osaka. The Americans now have an identical record of six wins and two defeats as Spain. Both teams trail front runners Cuba and Russia who both have a 7-1 win-loss record in the 12-team round robin.

In the day's other actions, European silver medalists Russia outplayed Canada 25-19, 30-28, 25-21, while Barcelona Olympic champions Brazil downed Argentina 23-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-19. (Xinhua)
