Culture CPC Party History Meeting Opens in Beijing

Chinese officials and academicians gathered in Beijing November 24 to study the history of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao attended the meeting, along with Zeng Qinghong, alternate member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Hu, also member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, noted in his address that CPC history study had progressed over the past year and played an active role in educating the Chinese people.

At the turn of the century, those involved in CPC history study bear the noble task of reviewing the past, and summing up successes and failures, Hu said.

The Chinese leader expressed the hope that the study will continue and progress so as to serve the reform, opening up and modernization drive as well as greet the 80th anniversary of the founding of the CPC.

In his speech, Zeng Qinghong said that the new situation and new tasks demand that Party history personnel improve themselves by enhancing their theoretical studies and political awareness.

Zeng also called on CPC committees at all levels to support and guide the effort. (Xinhua)
