Three world records were set up in the on-going World Weightlifting Championships in Piraeus, Greece on Tuesday.

Chen Yui-Lien of Chinese Taipei lifted two world records for three gold medals in the women's 63-kg while China's Le Maosheng set another record in the men's 62-kg competition.

Chen lifted 130 kgs in the clean-and-jerk to better the previous record by 2.5 kgs. After Xiong Meiyin of China answered with a 132.5 kgs lift on her next attempt to set another record, Chen matched that weight and upped the total record by 2.5 kgs with a combined 240 kgs to win the gold medal on a lower body weight.

Xiong finished with two silver medals in the overall and clean- and-jerk, and won bronze in the snatch.

Valentina Popova of Russia took the silver medal in the snatch with a lift of 105 kgs, and the bronze medal in total weight with 232.5 kgs.

Greece's Ioanna Chatzioannou took the bronze medal in the clean- and-jerk with a lift of 127.5 kgs.

In the men's 62-kg category, Le Maosheng lifted 180.5 kgs in the clean-and-jerk to better the world standard by 0.5 kgs and won the overall gold medal after he lift 140 kgs in the snatch for a total of 320 kgs.

Shi Zhiyong of China took the gold medal in the snatch, lifting 147.5 kgs, while Leonidas Sabanis of Greece took the silver medal in the total with 315 kgs, and the snatch with 145 kgs.

Sevdalin Minchev of Bulgaria won all three bronze medals. (Xinhua)
