Wednesday, November 24, 1999, updated at 09:30(GMT+8) World Chinese, Kenyan Top Legislators Hold Talks Visiting Chinese top legislator Li Peng Tuesday held talks with Kenya's National Assembly Speaker Francis Kaparo on furthering cooperation between the two countries and their parliaments. Kaparo said that that Li's visit will boost the friendship between the two nations and cooperation between the two legislative bodies. Li, Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), said that the Sino-Kenyan ties are based on a solid foundation and Kenya is one of China's most important partners in Africa. The Chinese leader noted that today the world is witnessing profound and complicated changes, where Western powers are attempting to build a Western-dominated new international order. Li pointed out that China is willing to strengthen consultation and coordination on the international affairs with developing countries including Kenya, in order to safeguard the rights and interests of the developing world. China's NPC attaches great emphasis on the cooperation with parliaments of other countries, Li noted. On behalf of China's NPC, Li also donated a number of computers and color televisions and other office facilities to the Kenya parliament.
