Sports Chen Sets Two Records at World Weightlifting Championships

Chinese Chen Yanqing, who held all three records in the women's 58-kg division, bettered her own marks in the two-lift total and snatch at the World Weightlifting Championships on Monday.

Chen bettered her mark in the total by 5 kilograms as she lifted a combined 235 kilograms. She also broke a world record by hoisting 105 kilograms in the snatch, bettering her previous record by 2.5 kilograms.

But her record in the clean-and-jerk was shattered by DPR Korea's Ri Song Hui who lifted 131 kilograms, 1 kilogram better than Chen's previous mark. Ri also won two silver medals, while Juo

Ping Chun of Chinese Taipei took all three bronze medals.

Another big winner of the day is Halil Mutlu of Turkey who set three world records to sweep all three gold medals in the men's 56-kilogram category.

Mutlu, who already has seven World Championship gold medals andone Olympic gold, broke his own record in the snatch by 2.5 kilograms, lifting 137.5 kilograms.

Later he broke the total weight record, which he held at 295 kilograms, by lifting 160 kilograms on his first attempt at the clean and jerk. He broke the previous record by 1 kilogram, lifting 166 kilograms and improving his total to 302.5 kilograms.

In the men's event, Adrian Jigau of Romania won the silver medal in the total weight category with 282.5 kilograms, and addeda bronze in the snatch with 125 kilograms.

Wang Shin-Yuan of Chinese Taipei collected the bronze in the total with 280 kilograms and the silver in the clean and jerk on 157.5 kilograms. (xinhua)
