Sci-Tech Computer Hacker Is More Harmful Than Millenium Bug

Minister of Information Industry Wu Jichuan reminded the departments concerned that while guarding against the millenium bug, they should enhance precautions against computer virus and the attack from hackers. He said this at the 3rd national video conference on solving the Y2K problem held in Beijing on November 19.

Wu disclosed that computers will be attacked by virus in a period around 2000. Reports say that there will be 30,000 computer hackers which may cause a huge loss. Statistics show that the information systems of 64 percent of companies were attacked last year and 57 percent of them were suffered by the financial sector. In view of this, he called on the concerned departments to heighten their vigilance, public security departments, in particular, should all the more be on the alert.
