China Beijing Scientists Lash out at Falun Gong Cult

Scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences shared the view that Falun Gong "is a down-to-earth cult organization", according the Beijing-based Guangming Daily.

Ye Jian, vice-president and research fellow of the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, told the press earlier that the Chinese scientist community has come to a consensus that Falun Gong is a cult; judging from Li Hongzhi's words and deeds such as not going to see the doctors and "earth explosion", Li is short of the minimum science knowledge and all his arguments are fabricated by himself. He said that mankind has been evolving over the past 8 million years, which can be testified by fossils. Li's words are fallacies against evolutionism and sciences and are idealistic.

Zhao Fuyuan, associate research fellow of Beijing Observatory and deputy director of the Scientific Popularization Working Committee under the Chinese Astronomical Society, pointed out that Falun Gong boasts all traits of a cult, and one of its fallacies, "the world's doomsday", is just the same with that of foreign cults. He added that from a scientific perspective, explosion of the earth is an Arabian Nights story. The earth has been here from 5 billion years and never exploded in totality and will not explode in future. Li Hongzhi's words run counter to sciences and are aimed at placing control on people's thinking in a bid to materialize his ulterior motives. He said that the handling of Falun Gong cult and its diehards according to law is fully correct. He advocated to spread scientific knowledge. thinking and methods and make a great effort to give full play to the scientific world outlook. In doing so, the masses of the people would be able to master sciences and all assortments of cults will find no place to hide, he urged.

Wu Luobin, vice-president of the Institute of Biophysics and deputy director-general of the Youth Innovation Association under the Chinese Academy of Sciences said that life has complicated phenomena and the scientific study of life is progressive, whereas cults have been seizing the complexity of life phenomena and exaggerating their mystery, The cults used to make use of people's psycology and spread things against scientific common knowledge to hoodwink people for their selfish purposes. This is the root cause why the cults can spread wildly, he pointed out. Falun Gong is making use of people's mentality on disease cure and prevention and its longing for longevity to fulfill their evil aims. It is a sheer nonsense on the part of Falun Gong to preach that human beings can stand high heat in a blast furnace. "We must build up the scientific concept that matter is primary", he demanded.
