Sci-Tech South Korea, China Test Aviation Computer System for Y2K Compliance

South Korea and China have completed a joint test in their civil aviation system against potential computer problems during the year 2000 transition period (Y2K), a spokesman from the Construction and Transportation Ministry said in Beijing Friday morning.

The test started at 11 p.m. Thursday and ended at 4 a.m. Friday when South Korea and China flew planes on the Seoul-Beijing route with computers set at 12 a.m. January 1, 2000. No problem was discovered with the systems, said the spokesman.

"Everything worked out fine, including radar and other flights systems on the ground," he added.

Checked in May and August, South Korean commercial airlines and related facilities were declared Y2K compliant. (Xinhua)
