Sci-Tech Shanghai Develops Intelligent Traffic Management System

The city of Shanghai is speeding up the construction of an intelligent traffic management system to increase efficiency, better guarantee road safety and reduce traffic jams.

An international symposium on intelligent urban traffic systems was held in Shanghai today to promote the new system.

The city's traffic network has expanded rapidly over the past decade, and now includes subways, elevated roads, tunnels, expressways and bridges.

In the same time, 18 traffic-monitoring systems have been built to cover the whole city. People can easily get traffic information through radio, television and the Internet.

The municipal government plans to give priority to the development of the system in the coming years, and to promote overseas cooperation in the sector. (Xinhua)
