World China Will Continue to Promote Middle-East Peace Process: Spokeswoman

China will, as always, work for the promotion of the Middle-East peace process, said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue in Beijing on November 11.

She made the statement at a routine press conference when asked to comment on what China will do in the Middle-East peace process.

China has made unremitting efforts in pushing forward the Middle-East peace process, Zhang said, citing President Jiang Zemin's recent visit to Morocco, Algeria and Saudi Arabia during which he elaborated China's stance on the Middle-East issue.

Moreover, Chinese leaders actively worked to promote peace between Palestine and Israel on different occasions and during meetings with leaders of the two sides, Zhang noted.

She said that Mahmoud Abbas, secretary-general of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), is now visiting China and Chinese top legislator Li Peng will soon visit Israel, Palestine and Oman.

China and the aforementioned countries will exchange ideas on regional and international issues of common interest during Li Peng's visit, Zhang said.
