Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan and Danish Foreign Minister Niels Petersen held talks in "a friendly atmosphere," sources from the Chinese foreign ministry said, adding that Tang told Petersen China will work hand in hand with Denmark to advance the ties between the countries. Echoing Tang's remark, the Danish foreign minister said that Denmark hopes for a better relationship with China in the new century, and will make its own efforts in this regard. They agreed that the further growth of friendship and cooperation between the two countries based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit is in the fundamental interests of both peoples. During the talks, the two foreign ministers discussed Sino- Danish relations, international issues, China-EU relations and Asia-Europe cooperation. Tang and Petersen reviewed the development of Sino-Danish ties in recent years, and expressed their delight with the development in cooperation in various areas. Petersen noted China's important position and role in the international arena, and said that it is important for Denmark and other European Union members to advance relations with China. Petersen arrived here on Sunday for an official visit to China, at the invitation of Tang.
