Culture China to Hold World Animation Fair

Over 80 enterprises from 16 countries including China, the US, France, Japan, Belgium and the Republic of Korea have registered for "Kids World '99 China", to be held in Beijing from November 23 to 28.

Walt Disney will bring five cartoon films to the fair. The EMTV, the largest cartoon producer in Europe, and Japan's Tezuka Production will also bring their latest products to the event, said organizers.

Besides cartoon films, cartoon books, toys and stationery will also be on display during the fair. Organizers will also hold a drawing contest to attract more children.

The fair will also take the opportunity to promote business negotiations and exchanges between Chinese and foreign enterprises.

The first fair of the kind was held in Beijing in August 1998. In the past few years, the cartoon entertainment industry in China has witnessed rapid growth. An official from the State Administration for Radio, Film and Television said that animation in China reached its peak in the late 1950s and early 1960s and again in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
