Jordanian King Meets Chinese Defense Minister

Jordanian King Abdullah Bin Hussein on October 25 spoke highly of the relations with the Chinese people and military.

King Abdullah made the remarks in meeting with visiting Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian who is on a four-day official and friendly visit to the kingdom.

Recalling the three visits he had paid to China before coming to the throne in February, the king said he had personally seen the progress achieved in various fields in China and he saw these changes with heartfelt respects.

He said Jordan is a firm supporter of China and he will visit China and meet Chinese leaders in the near future.

The upcoming visit will promote mutual understanding and help further consolidate and develop relations between the two countries, he added.

For his part, Chi said he was glad to see, under the leadership of King Abdullah, Jordan continuing to play an important role in international and regional affairs.

Chi also expressed satisfaction over the current relations between the two countries, and said he hoped the ties will be further consolidated and developed based on the five principles of peaceful coexistence.

On the Middle East peace process, Chi said that China stands for a just, durable and comprehensive peace in the region, and will work persistently toward that goal together with the world community.

Briefing the king on China's domestic situation, Chi said that Macau will soon return to the motherland, marking an important step in the unification process of China.

He said China will stick to the "peaceful unification, one country, two systems" principle on the Taiwan issue, and the "two states" theory of Li Denghui from Taiwan is aimed at separating Taiwan from the motherland and can not be tolerated.

He stressed that the Taiwan issue will not drag on permanently, and Taiwan will eventually return to the arms of the motherland.

Heading a 17-member delegation, Chi arrived in Amman on Friday, the third leg of his four-nation Middle East tour.

Chi had visit Syria and Israel and will travel on to Turkey later Monday. (Xinhua)
