China More Jobless Chinese Finding Work

¡¡ Latest statistics from the Ministry of Personnel show that of the 6.3 million citizens registered at the government-run employment centers in 1998, 2.25 million found jobs.

¡¡ China's first employment bureau emerged in 1983 in Shenyang, the capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province, as a result of the country's reform and opening-up drive that started in 1978. Since then, a nationwide personnel exchange network has been formed.

¡¡ In 1998, China's employment market sent some 30,000 qualified people to the country's inland and mountainous areas and brought in some 2.16 million workers for a variety of businesses.

¡¡ The Ministry of Personnel has established a national Internet information network to help people get jobs in different regions. Nearly 11.35 million people visited this website in 1998.
