Tianjin Reports Six-Year Negative Population Growth
The population of Tianjin, the largest industrial city
in north China, has reported a negative growth for six consecutive years.
According to official statistics, the city's population
registered an average negative growth of 3.2 percent every year since 1993.
The negative growth has contributed a lot to the
quality of the city's population and the rising cost of living standards.
Some 760,000 babies are born each year in Tianjin. The
mortality rate for babies is seven in every one thousand. Deafness and mentally-retarded
babies is almost zero.
The city's per-capita Gross Domestic Product is over
130,000 yuan (about 1,566 US dollars) and urban per-capita income is more than 6,600 yuan
(about 795 dollars), ranking third and fifth among all cities in China.
