Chinese Scientists Develop Substance to Prolong Life of Flowers
Chinese scientists have developed a substance which can
prolong the life of flowers.
Researchers at Heilongjiang Academy of Science in
northeast China said the effectiveness of the substance is equivalent to the same product
on the international market, but it is a lot cheaper than its international counterpart.
"The gelatinous substance has high purity and low
toxicity and it can also prevent flowers from being harmed by pests," said Liu
Yuguang, one of the researchers at the Academy.
Liu explains that the substance prolongs the life of
flowers by releasing nutrients to flowers. Water and earth cultivation often make the
flowers wither because of a shortage of nutrients or too much of them.
Liu also says the amount of nutrients put into the
substance can be delayed or advanced to control the flower blooming process.
