More Tourists For Southern China Scenic Area
����Chinese tourism got a great push from the longer
holidays for this year's National Day.
����The local tourism department of Guilin, a popular
scenic spot in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, reports more than 300,000 tourists in
the first week of this month, 20,000 of them from overseas, an 80 percent increase from
the same period of last year.
����The city had 6.12 million tourists in the first eight
months of the year, up 10.25 percent, 372,300 of them from overseas, up 50. 91 percent.
The city got 2.38 billion yuan from tourism, up 10.33 percent.
����Guilin has karst formations and is noted for its green
mountains, clear water, caverns, and oddly shaped rocks and it has set up a special
committee to deal with planning, management, and coordination in its tourism. The city has
also taken steps to develop new scenic spots and has completed 17 new tourism projects.
