China Cooperating With Volkswagen In Producing Cars
Shanghai Volkswagen Co. Ltd, a sino-German joint
venture, has developed a new Passat model in Shanghai that has passed a State Economic and
Trade Commission test.
The Passat has the latest technology from Germany's
Volkswagen and a longer chassis and newer equipment. It will come off the production line
later this year and will be produced in larger numbers by next spring.
Shanghai Volkswagen, which was set up in 1985,
manufactures 300, 000 Santanas, its most popular car, annually. The more than 1,300, 000
Santanas already in use occupy a large share of China's car market.
