Seoul Proposes Establishment of Inter-Korean Economic Body
South Korean President Kim Dae- jung on October 19 proposed the establishment of inter-Korean economic confederation to seek people's development and welfare on the Korean peninsula
Such confederation will promote South-North economic cooperation, Kim said in his state address to the National Assembly or parliament read by Prime Minister Kim Jong-pil.
"Inter-Korean economic cooperation can flourish based on the principle of separating politics from economy," said President Kim.
He stressed that his government will further endeavor to restore inter-Korean governmental talks, especially high-level meetings, so as to solve mutually concerned issues.
The South Korean head of state also said it is necessary to revise the South Korean National Security Law which has already failed to reflect reality between Seoul and Pyongyang.
The proposal is designed to further substantiate inter-Korean ties by supporting more economic exchange and cooperation and expanding humanitarian assistance to Pyongyang which could later lead to improvement in governmental relationship, said analysts.
They said increasing South Korean businesses with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea will help build mutual confidence and enable Pyongyang to be more dependent on Seoul, eventually making governmental talks inevitable. (Xinhua)
