Syrian PM Meets China's Defense Minister

Syrian Prime Minister Mahmoud Zouebi met with visiting Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian October 16 night in Damascus.

During the talks, Zouebi expressed satisfaction with the normal development of relations between the two countries and two armies.

He said the two countries have a long history of friendship and Syria is interested in promoting friendship and relations with China.

He praised the achievements China has made over the past 20 years since it adopted the policy of reform and opening-up to the outside world.

The prime minister also expressed thanks for China's support to the just cause of the Arab nation, saying Syria appreciated China's anti-hegemonism stand.

"Syria belives that a uni-polar world is incompatible with the development trend of history," Zouebi told Chi, who is also vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission.

He extended congratulations on the return of Hong Kong and Macao to China, and wished China would realize the reunification of the motherland.

Earlier Saturday, Syrian President Hafez al-Assad met with the Chinese defense minister and held friendly talks with him. (Xinhua)
