Tuesday, October 05, 1999, updated at 09:54 World Beijing Seminar Marks Sino-Russian Diplomatic Ties The Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and the China- Russia Friendship Association held a seminar on Sino-Russian relations to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Russian diplomatic ties. Nearly 70 participants from both countries had an in-depth exchange of views on Sino-Russian ties, and they agreed that there exists a solid social, historical and cultural foundation and broad prospects for the further growth of Sino-Russian friendship and cooperation. CPAFFC President Qi Huaiyuan said on the occasion that the two sides should expand exchanges in all areas to promote bilateral ties while intensifying joint efforts made by government departments in the two countries. He added that it is important to promote exchanges between scholars of the two countries to further enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples. Describing the seminar as a meaningful gathering, Russian ambassador to China Igor Rogachev called on youngsters of the two countries to carry on the cause of Sino-Russian friendship initiated by elder generations. Sergei Tikhvinsky, honorary chairman of the Central Council of the Russia-China Friendship Society, and Titarenko, chairman of the society's Central Council, also praised Sino-Russian relations at the seminar.
