UNMIK "Blue Sky" Begins Broadcasting in Kosovo
The United Nations "Blue Sky" public radio
Friday went on the air in Kosovo, the Yugoslav province, with programs of news, music and
features around the clock on October 2.
News bulletins, produced entirely by local journalists,
are broadcast daily in Albanian at 7:30 a.m. (local time) and 7:30 p.m. (local time), and
in Serbian at 8:30 a.m. (local time) and 8:30 p.m. (local time).
The radio also broadcasts news and features on the
United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), which began operation in
June in Kosovo under a UN resolution, at a quarter to the hour, the officials said.
"Blue Sky" radio is operating with mostly
local staff, under the editorial supervision of the UNMIK. The Swiss Government has
donated studio facilities and technical support staff.
The radio station plans to expand news coverage to
include debates, press reviews and phone-in programs, and the programs will also cover
women's issues, youth, culture and humanitarian topics.
Programs in various languages will be added, as will
English lectures. (Xinhua)
