6 Iraqi Civilians Injured in US-British Air Raids
Six Iraqi civilians were injured in US and British air raids on residential areas in the southern Iraqi province of Misan, an Iraqi military spokesman announced on September 29.
The spokesman said the US and British warplanes coming from Saudi and Kuwaiti bases bombed the villages of Mizbaniya and Talaae in Misan province.
The bombardment injured six civilians, including two children, and destroyed a number of civilian houses, said the spokesman.
Since last December's airstrikes against Iraq, the United States and British warplanes have made nearly 13,000 sorties over the no-fly zones in Iraq, and have been regularly attacking Iraqi civilian and military targets, said the spokesman.
The no-fly zones were imposed on Iraq by the US-led Western allies following the 1991 Gulf War with the claimed aim of protecting the Kurds in the north and the Shiite Muslims in the south from possible attacks by Iraqi government troops. (Xinhua) 28/09/99
