Chinese Minorities Delegation Attending National Day Celebrations Formed
A delegation of Chinese ethnic minority groups to attend the National Day celebrations was formed in Beijing on September 29 afternoon.
The delegation comprises 423 people representing model groups or individuals attending an ongoing conference held by the State Council here to award their contributions to the development of Chinese ethnic groups.
The delegation will attend the National Day gala celebrations on Friday and other events over the weekend. They are also expected to visit some rural villages and enterprises in and around Beijing and hear a report on Beijing's economic and social development.
More than 30 honorary representatives from the Hong Kong SAR and specially-invited representatives from Macao and Taiwan attending the conference will also join the delegation.
An official with the State Ethnic Affairs Commission said that the members of the delegation represent all 56 ethnic groups and are from all provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, the Central Committee of the Party, departments of the State Council, democratic parties, business associations, people's organizations, the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the Chinese People's Armed Police.
"Though these model representatives are from different industries, they have made outstanding contributions to the unity and progress of the nation's ethnic groups on their own posts," said Jiang Jiafu, head of the delegation and vice-minister of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission at a gathering here this afternoon.
He said he hoped that all members of the delegation will take the opportunity to broaden their vision and spread brotherly feelings among all ethnic groups, so as to contribute still more to the unity and progress of the Chinese nation. (Xinhua)
