Model Workers Should Play Greater Role: Wei Jianxing

Model workers in China should make more contributions to the cause of deepening reform, promoting development and maintaining stability, a top Chinese official said in Beijing on September 29.

The working class including model workers should make exerted and strenuous efforts to improve the performance of State-owned enterprises (SOEs), said Wei Jianxing, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of Communist Party of China Central Committee and president of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), at a symposium attended by 100 model workers to mark the 50th birthday of the new China.

The guidelines, goals and tasks for the reform and growth of SOEs have been proposed at the 4th Plenum of the 15th CPC Central Committee which was just closed, he said.

Wei urged model workers to lead other workers to deal with the temporary difficulties in the reform drive, do their own jobs well and study science and technology.

The official showed solicitudes to the model workers and spoke highly on the achievements made by model workers in the history of the People's Republic of China.

The model workers were invited to Beijing to attend the celebration activities for the National Day. (Xinhua)
