Milosevic Promises Release of Two Australians

Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic promised on September 1 to free two Australians who were arrested for espionage during the NATO bombing.

According to a report from Tanjug News Agency, Milosevic made this promise at a meeting with a delegation of Serbian Australian emigrants. The president said that in return for the great support from 300,000 Serbian emigrants during NATO airstrikes, Yugoslavia decided to accept the request by the delegation to release the two Australians -- Prat and Valas.

The security organ of Yugoslavia destroyed the spy network under the leadership of Prat this April. Yugoslavia accused them of spying under the name of humanitarianism organization "Care International".

Yugoslavia arrested them on charges of collecting information about the movement of Yugoslav police and troops and about the bombing effects before and during the attacks. Australia has demanded several times the release of Prat and Valas, but it has met flat refusal from Yugoslavia. (Xinhua)
