Foreign Leaders Not Invited to China's National Day Celebration

China says it will not invite foreign heads of state and government to activities marking the 50th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Foreign Ministry has announced.

The decision is in keeping with Chinese government regulations, Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi told a routine press conference in Beijing today, at the end of the six-week summer holiday.

However, Sun says, Beijing-based foreign envoys and experts as well as foreign guests who are visiting Beijing at that time will be invited to participate in the celebrations.
