Chinese Defense Minister Meets Uruguayan Counterpart

On September 2, Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian met with his visiting Uruguayan counterpart Juan Luis Storace at Beijing.

Chi, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said that though China and Uruguay are geographically far apart, both are developing countries and share similar aims rather than conflicts.

Chi voiced his satisfaction over the growing exchange and cooperation between the two armed forces, hoping that such exchange would further increase in all levels and all fields.

Chi also reiterated China's stand on the Taiwan issue, while expressing his gratitude to the Uruguayan government for its adherence to the "One-China" policy.

Storace agreed that both countries have consensus over many major international issues and stressed that each has been supporting the other in international affairs.

"Uruguay will always stick to the principle of non-interference in each other's internal affairs, and the "One-China" policy," he said, adding the hope that China will use the principle of " peaceful reunification, one country and two systems" in settling the Taiwan issue.
