Chinese President Jiang Zemin will attend the summit meeting of China, Russia, Kazakstan, Kyrgyz and Tajikistan in Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyz, from August 24 to 26 at the invitation of President Askar Akayev of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao made this announcement in Beijing on the afternoon of August 12.

The summit meeting of the five heads of state, which was held three times before, has played an important role in keeping regional stability and promoting economic cooperation, Zhu said.

"The forthcoming summit is the last of its kind before the end of the century. President Jiang will, during the meeting, exchange views with the other four heads of state on such issues as current international situation, regional security and economic cooperation, so as to further promote their good-neighborly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation," he said.
