Luneng Taishan Remains on Top of China League
Luneng Taishan remained on top of the 14-team Chinese First Division soccer league after forcing a 1-1 drew with Tianjin Taida in the 17th round match on Sunday.
Luneng Taishan, took over the leading position in last Sunday's 15th round, also became the first team ensured their berth for next season's first division competition with a leading 32 points from a win-drew-loss outcome of 9-5-3 after 17 of the total 26 rounds competition.
Luneng Taishan found themselves trailed 0-1 at the 29th minute when the visiting Taida opened the score with follow-up shot by Chi Rongliang.
But Luneng Taishan tied it at 1-1 with a penalty goal with 17 minutes into the second half.
Luneng Taishan now is holding just one point leading margin over second placers Liaoning Fushun, who trounced the bottom team of Wuhan Heart K 5-2 in a road victory.
In the third position of the 14-team standings was Shanghai Shenhua, who recovered from their first loss of the season in last Thursday's 2-1 defeat by Jilin Aodong and recorded a 3-1 win over Chongqing Longxin at home on Sunday.
The Jilin Aodong kept unbeaten in last week's three matches when they tied 1-1 with defending champions Dalian Wanda. The four-time Chinese first division champions are still struggling at the 10th position with just 19 points on the standings after a winless slow start at the first half of the season.
In other matches played on Sunday, Guangzhou Rongri ousted Sichuan Quanxing 1-0 and Shenyang Haishi defeated Shenzhen Ping'an 2-1. Beijing Guo'an rallied from 2-0 behind to drew with Qingdao Hainiu 2-2 on road. (xinhua)
