New Documents to Promote China's Medical Insurance Reform

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security said in Beijing on July 22 that it has promulgated three new documents to enhance the supervision of medical services and effective management of the country's medical insurance funds.

The three documents provide more detailed regulations on the settlement of medical insurance fees for urban employees, the management of medical services and the payment standards, which pave the way for the establishment and smooth operation of the country's medical insurance system.

The documents followed three others issued by the government in May, which deal with designated medical institutions, drug store management and the scope of medicines for the basic medical insurance package.

To date, 17 provinces across China have formulated overall plans for the reform of the medical insurance system, and the goal for the second half of the year is to ensure that the overwhelming majority of China's provinces draw up similar plans and gradually implement them. (Xinhua)
