South Africa, Singapore Reiterate One-China Stand
The South African government has reiterated that it will adhere to the "one-China" policy.
In reference to Lee Teng-hui's recent remarks that relations between Taiwan and China were on a "state-to-state" basis, the South African Foreign Ministry said in a statement on July 14 that "the South African government is committed to its 'one-China' policy".
The statement available on July 15 said that South Africa "believes in constructive engagement where differences arise."
Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory and eventual reunification is the common wish of all Chinese people
The Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAF) on July 15 issued a statement reiterating its one-China stand.
The statement reads: "Singapore recognizes that there is only one China and that Taiwan is part of China. The Government of the Republic of Singapore recognizes the Government of the People's Republic of China. This has been our consistent policy and it remains unchanged."
MAF issued the statement in response to media inquiries on Singapore's views on Lee Teng-hui's recent remarks on cross-strait relations. (Xinhua)
