Uygur-Chinese Dictionary Begins Compilation
Work has begun on compiling a Uygur- Chinese dictionary in Urumqi, capital city of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
This will be the latest in a series of bilingual dictionaries compiled since the founding of New China in 1949 and follows the publication of the Mongolian-Chinese, Korean-Chinese and Tibetan- Chinese dictionaries; and has an important place in Xinjiang's political, economic, scientific and educational development.
The dictionary will comprise 80,000-100,000 items. The compilation is expected to be completed in three years and the book will come off press in 2001.
