Reunification Congress Deputies Criticize Taiwan Leader's Remarks
Deputies to the 6th Trustee Congress of the China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification (CCPPR) issued a statement in Beijing Thursday condemning the separatist remarks made recently by Taiwan's Lee Teng-hui.
The statement said that Lee's remarks reveal his intention to separate Taiwan from China and that he would be a sinner if he does not immediately stop traveling down this road.
The statement said that his separatist remarks seriously undermine the cross-straits relations and will affect the fundamental interests of Taiwan compatriots and that the CCPPR firmly supports China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity, adding that there is only one China in the world and the fact that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China cannot be changed.
The CCPPR also held a forum Thursday afternoon. Li Wen, a research fellow from the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, said there that defining cross-straits relations as Lee did as "state-to-state" is wrong and that Lee's remarks expose his intention to separate Taiwan from China, which is something the Chinese people cannot stand.
