OAU Summit Ends With Declaration for Peace, Development
The 35th summit of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) ended in Algiers Wednesday morning with a declaration urging for peace and stability in Africa and better preparedness to face pending challenges.
The declaration said that peace and development is the daunting challenge the continent faces at the turn of the century. Peace is the precondition to economic recovery and development, it said.
The summit has drawn 46 heads of state who showed, more than ever, the courage to embrace the next millennium and expressed the hope to do more practical work for the improvement of African societies.
The summit has also decided that the next summit is to be held in Togo. (Xinhua)
