Former Taiwan Governor Disagrees with Lee's Remarks

James Soong, former governor of Taiwan province on July 14 announced a clear disagreement with Lee Tung-hui's "state-to-state" allegation.

Soong said that the Taiwan leader should put above all the interests of Taiwan people. Any critical change of policy should be approved in advance by 22 million Taiwanese. No politician could risk the lives and happiness of Taiwan people for his personal interests.

Taiwan's third largest party --- New Party -- plans to hold a speech meeting on Sunday to refute the "state to state" allegation. One official said Lee's remark is a big political gambling aiming to divert the public's attention from the notorious election fund issue. Li put Taiwan people at stake for his wild personal ambition.

Some businessman criticized Lee for deteriorating the cross-straits relations, which leads to severe impact on investor's confidence.

The Taiwan Stock Exchange weighted price index plummeted 315.84 points to 7,888.66
