Returned Overseas Chinese Condemn Lee's Separatist Remarks

At the ongoing Sixth National Congress of Returned Overseas Chinese and Relatives on July 14, participants strongly condemned the separatist remarks of Taiwan's Lee Teng-hui. In an informal forum, they all indicated that any move to divide China goes against the tide of history, against the will of all the Chinese people including Taiwan compatriots and overseas Chinese.

Vice-President of All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese Chen Lantong

said that the circle of returned overseas Chinese felt very indignant at Lee Teng-hui's splitting remarks. This was wanton denial of and serious provocation against the "One China" principle which is internationally acknowledged. This does harm to the great cause of the country's reunification and exposes the Lee's true feature in plotting to create "Two Chinas", "One China, One Taiwan" and "Taiwan independence". Chen pointed out that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China. The returned overseas Chinese and their relatives and Chinese nationals residing abroad hope that China can bring about an early reunification.

Many other representatives said that returned overseas Chinese should give full play to the advantage of people-to-people exchange, serve themselves as a "bridge" to extensive link with Taiwan people, especially in the fields of education and culture, and fight against separatist words and deeds.
