Nebiolo Believes Beijing Will Hold Best Ever Universiade

FISU president Primo Nebiolo said in Palma De Mallorca on Friday that he believes Beijing will host the best ever world university games in 2001.

After hearing Beijing mayor Liu Qi's report on the works Beijing had done in preparation of the 2001 university games in the 20th FISU general assembly, Nebiolo said: "I'm quite sure Beijing will hold the best ever universiade in 2001, and I'm very proud for having brought the games to Beijing."

"Beijing enjoys an important position not only in international sports, but also in international politics," said Nebiolo, who is also IAAF president.

He said Beijing has the capacity to build up ideal stadiums and create benign atmosphere for the 2001 universiade.

Liu said in his report that Beijing now boasts over 30 large stadiums, which can meet the demand of the games.

In case of fund shortage, Beijing government will offer their backing to ensure the games a complete success.
